Waste Reduction for a “Cause” (at your next meeting):
The trend the last few years has been to "green" our meetings and events and think of ways to save the environment one biodegradable cup at a time. Well here is a great way to reduce waste & hunger at the same time. It’s as easy as “wrapping it up”.
- Start by developing a contract clause with the venue and/or caterer that requires them to donate the extra food to a local food bank;
- Any food that is prepared and not served from meetings typically goes into landfills, however it can go to feed the hungry;
- Develop a partnership with a local service organization to come & pick up the leftovers;
- During the meeting or conference offer delegates the option of working for a few hours at a local soup kitchen or food bank…this not only gives back to the community but offers the company a chance for corporate social responsibility thereby increasing the physical and economic health of all people.
